MYL Code of Conduct
Participation in the Medfield Youth Lacrosse Program is considered a privilege for players, coaches, parents and spectators. All play a part in making the experience of Youth Lacrosse a positive experience for everyone to enjoy. Those who do not abide by the ethics detailed below during MYL games will be asked to leave the field and may be subject to further consequences pending inquiry from the Medfield Youth Lacrosse Board.
Coaches Code of Conduct:
1 I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.
2 I will treat each player as an individual, and expect age appropriate skills from all my players.
3 I will distribute playing time evenly among players on my team within the guidelines of MYL rules.
4 I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players and players on the other team.
5 I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players on and off the field.
6 I will respect the decisions of referees.
7 I will remember that I am a youth sports coach and that the game is for children and not adults.
Players' Code of Conduct:
8 I will play within the rule and be adherent to the instructions of the referees and coaches.
9 I will respect the decisions of referees and coaches.
10 I will not intentionally try to inflict pain or injury to another player.
11 I will exhibit good sportsmanship before, during, and after each game, regardless of the outcome.
12 I will not partake in taunting, criticizing or jeering of opposing players or officials.
Spectators' & Parents Code of Conduct:
13 I will not criticize, taunt or otherwise disrespect officials, players, or coaches from either team.
14 I will offer only positive words of encouragement, preferably to both teams playing.
15 I will not instruct players or coaches during games or practices.
16 I will allow others around me to enjoy the game by not being overly boisterous or belligerent.
Parent's Pledge:
I have read and understand the Parent's Code of Conduct. Therefore, I will:
1. Not force an unwilling child to participate in sports.
2. Remember that children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment, not mine.
3. Teach my child that hard work and an honest effort is more important than a victory.
4. Help my child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game. My child will then be a winner, even in defeat.
5. Not ridicule my child or others for making a mistake during a game.
6. Set a good example. I understand that children learn best by good examples.
7. Applaud good plays by members of our team and by members of the opposing team.
8. Not publicly question a referee or coach's judgment.
9. Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches and officials and give them due respect. I know that without them, there would not be a Medfield Lacrosse.
10. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities.
You agree to abide by the Code of Conduct listed above and understand the privilege of participation in future MYL events may be revoked for non-compliance. You further understand the importance of fair play and sportsmanship during youth sports competition and recognize the authority of referees and town coordinators to remove those who are exhibiting poor conduct during MYL events.
